The Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has granted in-principle approval for Chinese nationals to participate in the upcoming Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025, scheduled from January 17 to 22 across multiple venues in Delhi NCR. This development marks a potential shift in the participation of Chinese auto industry executives, who have been largely absent from India's major automotive events over the past five years due to geopolitical tensions and stringent visa regulations.
Despite the MEA's clearance, industry representatives indicate that Chinese auto component manufacturers are unlikely to attend this edition of the expo. Vinnie Mehta, Director General of the Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India (ACMA), noted that while the event's booking portal was open to all, Chinese companies did not apply for participation.
China remains a significant player in India's automotive sector, accounting for approximately 28% of auto component imports. In the first half of the fiscal year 2024-25, India's imports of auto components from China increased by 4%, reaching $11 billion (₹92,050 crore).
The Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025 aims to showcase a wide range of vehicles, including commercial and passenger vehicles, electric vehicles (EVs), auto components, tyres, battery and storage components, and integrated vehicle software. The event is organised with active participation from prominent industry associations such as EEPC India, SIAM, ACMA, ATMA, IESA, NASSCOM, and ICEMA.
