Tata Motors offers a long list of safety features with the Harrier and the Safari, along with a robust architecture that has been carried over to its upcoming petrol variants.
Tata Harrier and Safari were the first two cars to be crash tested by Bharat New Car Assessment Programme (BNCAP) in December 2023. Interestingly both SUVs, fresh from their facelifts in September 2023, had achieved 5-star safety ratings by Bharat NCAP with the highest ratings back then, making them the safest passenger vehicle in the country.
The same ratings have now been extended to the upcoming petrol version of Tata Harrier and Safari. The official confirmation comes from the company’s social media handles. When the Harrier and Safari were evaluated by Bharat NCAP in 2023, both SUVs secured 30.08 out of 32 in Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) and 44.54 out of 49 in Child Occupant Protection (COP). This safety rating will now also extend to the petrol variants of the Harrier and Safari.
Both Harrier and Safari come equipped with safety features such as six airbags (seven in higher trims), electronic stability control, three-point seatbelts in every row, seatbelt reminders for all passengers, ISOFIX child seat mounts, and seatbelts that include a retractor, pretensioner, load limiter, and anchor pretensioner as standard.
Further, the top-spec variants of Tata Harrier and Safari offer Level 2 ADAS featuring over 20 advanced features, including Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Lane Keep Assist (LKA), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Blind Spot Detection, Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA), Forward Collision Warning, and High Beam Assist, providing enhanced safety and convenience by predicting and preventing potential accidents through camera and radar technology.
Up until now, Harrier and Safari were offered with a sole 2.0-litre Kryotec diesel engine that produced 168 bhp and 350 Nm of peak torque. Now, Tata will be offering both mid-size SUVs with a petrol engine. Powering the same will be a 1.5-litre TGDI turbo petrol mill that churns out 168 bhp and 280 Nm of peak. Both engines can be paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.
