Unlike the concept which looked off-road ready, the test mule spotted was more road-biased.
We had already spotted the upcoming BMW F 450 GS in Karnataka earlier this month, and now the adventure bike has been spotted overseas. In both the scenarios, the F 450 GS looked very similar to the concept version showcased last year at EICMA, but with some very notable changes. And as we inch closer to its official launch, it's giving us quite the fair idea about what the BMW F 450 GS will actually be when it launches.
For starters, the BMW F 450 GS will look a lot like the bigger BMW R 1300 GS. The front section carries forward the same design ethos with the headlight being similar. But unlike the concept, the F 450 GS spotted here sports a stacked LED light setup, while the X-shaped LED DRL will remain the same.
Another major detail that has remained consistent in both the Indian and foreign spy shots are the use of alloy wheels, instead of the cross-wire spoke wheels as seen on the concept bike. These units look the same as the ones we saw on the BMW G 310 GS from before. The spoke wheels might be offered as an accessory or a variant. The exhaust design is pretty slender and stubby, quite different from the current 310s. It is not quite as upswept as the concept but would do the job for most scenarios.
When the test mule was spotted in India we could even pick on the fully-digital instrument cluster. The shape and finish of the console looked the same as we have seen on other premium BMW bikes.
Mechanically, BMW had already revealed earlier that the F 450 GS will be powered by a 450 cc, liquid-cooled, parallel-twin mill that is good for 45 bhp. The bike will also tip the scales at 175 kg, and ride on 19-/17-inch wheels. On the test mule, the wheels were wrapped with road-biased dual-purpose tyres, unlike the chunky, knobby tyres seen on the concept.
So, all in all, the BMW F 450 GS seems now to be more of a road-biased adventure tourer, rather than a hardcore offering. We’re expecting the production-spec bike will be unveiled in all its glory later this year at EICMA in Milan, post that it will launch in our country by early-2026.
