The middleweight adventure duo now gets a bigger engine as well as a new aggressive and rally-inspired design language.
After a few teasers, BMW has launched the new F 900 GS and F 900 GS Adventure in the country at ₹13.75 lakh and ₹14.75 lakh (both, ex-showroom, India), respectively. The adventure duo will compete against the likes of the Triumph Tiger 900s, Suzuki V-Strom 800DE, Ducati DesertX, and the Multistrada V2.
Starting with the heart, the new GS models are now powered by a larger 895 cc twin-cylinder engine that makes 103 bhp and 93 Nm. Both models feature two standard riding modes - Rain and Road - along with a Dynamic Traction Control (DTC) and ABS Pro for improved cornering stability. An optional 'Riding Modes Pro' package is also available that offers additional riding modes and features such as Dynamic Brake Control.
With the F 900 GS, BMW has made notable changes to make it more suited for off-road ventures. Starting with the new plastic fuel tank, which is 4.5 kg lighter than the previous steel version. Additionally, the redesigned sleek rear section also helps shed 2.4 kg from before. All in all, the new F 900 GS is now 14 kg lighter than its predecessor. Lastly, the riding position has also been optimised with lowered footrests, a higher handlebar position, and a lower seat height as well.
In terms of suspension, both the F 900 GS and F 900 GS Adventure feature a fully adjustable upside-down fork. The F 900 GS can be further enhanced with an optional Enduro Pro package, which includes a titanium nitride-coated fork and an adjustable central spring strut.
The F 900 GS is available in two colour schemes: Style Passion and Style GS Trophy. For the F 900 GS Adventure, buyers can choose between Blackstorm Metallic and White Aluminium Matte finishes.
Considering that the asking price of the middleweight BMW ADVs has gone up by a lakh of rupees, the new F 900s aim to offer a more powerful and focused ride for the adventure buyer. It comes loaded with quite a few bells and whistles while still being competitively priced when compared to its rivals.
