The yet-to-be-named JV will help establish IT hubs in Bengaluru, Chennai and Pune.
BMW Group has announced that it has agreed to form a joint venture (JV) with Tata Technologies to establish software and information technology (IT) development hubs in India. These hubs will be located in Bengaluru, Chennai and Pune. As always, the formation of the JV is subject to review and approval by relevant authorities.
The as-of-yet unnamed JV will follow the idea of ‘Engineer in India for the world’. The JV will focus on “strategic software development” that will include solutions for software-defined vehicles (SDVs). In the automotive space, the JV will focus on developing automated driving technologies for BMW as well improve the infotainment and other digital aspects of its models. Similarly, in the IT space, the JV will help in the digitalisation and automation of the production and sales functions as well as product development.

The JV is said to use Tata’s extensive talent pool and digital engineering expertise to help BMW’s software development capabilities. For this, Tata Technologies says it will provide 100 professionals to help set up the JV. The work for the automotive space will be done in Bengaluru and Pune, while the work for the IT space will be done in Chennai.
Christoph Grote, Senior Vice President of Software and E/E Architecture, BMW Group, said, “Our collaboration with Tata Technologies will accelerate our progress in the field of the software-defined vehicle. In international comparison, India boasts a large number of talents with outstanding software skills, who can contribute to our software competence.”
