The launch of these new roadsters further strengthens BMW Motorrad’s position in the premium motorcycle market.
BMW Motorrad has launched the highly anticipated R 12 nineT and R 12 models in India. Set to hit the roads in September 2024, these Completely Built-up Units (CBU) are priced at ₹20,90,000 and ₹19,90,000 (ex-showroom) respectively.
At the heart of both machines lies BMW's renowned air/oil-cooled boxer engine, a 1,170 cc powerhouse that delivers an impressive 109 bhp in the R 12 nineT and a robust 95 bhp in the R 12. This iconic engine is now housed in a revolutionary one-piece tubular spaceframe, an engineering marvel that not only reduces weight but also enhances the bikes' classic silhouettes.
BMW has left no stone unturned in equipping these motorcycles with cutting-edge technology. For starters, there’s the new Dynamic Traction Control, engine drag torque control, and the safety-enhancing ABS Pro system, which further enhances efficient braking even in corners. The inclusion of multiple riding modes – "Rain", "Road", and "Dynamic" for the R 12 nineT, and "Roll" and "Rock" for the R 12 – ensures these bikes can adapt to various riding styles and conditions.
Aesthetically, both models are a feast for the eyes. The R 12 nineT boasts a sleek aluminium tank with brushed side panels, while the R 12 pays homage to the iconic "Toaster Tanks" of BMW's 1970s /5 models. Colour options range from the classic Blackstorm metallic to the eye-catching San Remo Green metallic for the R 12 nineT, and the sophisticated Avus Silver metallic for the R 12.
For those seeking to personalize their rides, BMW offers the Option 719 package, featuring exclusive milled components and unique colour schemes. Additionally, the Comfort package adds luxurious touches like heated grips and cruise control.
Vikram Pawah, President of BMW Group India, emphasized the bikes' appeal to purists who desire both originality and dynamic riding experiences. With these launches, BMW Motorrad not only strengthens its position in the premium motorcycle market but also sets a new benchmark for classic bikes with modern capabilities.
