The BMW M 1000 XR is the third model in BMW’s performance-based M line-up.
₹45 Lakh (ex-showroom) is not cheap money, and the new BMW M 1000 XR will certainly go down in India’s automotive history as one of the most expensive production-spec motorcycles to go on sale.
Hailed by BMW as the lightest and most powerful production crossover motorcycle, the new M 1000 XR doesn’t hold back at any level to justify its price tag. As a result, every panel and surface that you see on this motorcycle is dipped in carbon fibre. The lightweight material has been used so extensively that the bike’s kerb weight has dropped by 5 kg from the standard S 1000XR’s 228 kg.
Aesthetically, the BMW M 1000 XR will be available with just one paint scheme as the standard offering. The combination of that high-gloss black paint with BMW M Division livery, and the high gloss carbon fibre side panels, certainly helps its case in looking like a million bucks. The front also benefits from M winglets that are not available with the standard S 1000 XR. Thereby, attention to detail is simply impeccable with this M bike.
Built around the same aluminium-alloy perimeter frame where the engine is the stress member as the S 1000 XR. The new BMW M 1000 XR benefits from a 45 mm fully-adjustable USD fork, and an adjustable rear shock absorber. The engine is the same 999 cc, inline-four cylinder engine which has been tuned further to produce 201 bhp at 12,750 rpm and 113 Nm at 11,000 rpm. BMW claims that the M 1000 XR can accelerate from 0-100 kmph in just 3.2 seconds, and reach its top speed of 278 kmph.
Feature-wise, the BMW M 1000 XR will feature all top-shelf equipment. For starters, it gets ABS Pro, Dynamic Brake Control, Dynamic Damping Control, TPMS, and Dynamic Traction Control as standard. Additionally, there are also four ride modes - Road, Dynamic, Race and Race Pro – to further help tap the performance. The controls for all of these can be toggled on the 6.5-inch TFT display.
Bookings for the BMW M 1000 XR have commenced across all BMW Motorrad showrooms in India. Deliveries for the booked models will start from June onwards. Being a performance-focused adventure tourer, the BMW M 1000 XR slots in as quite the niche product.
