The recent teaser hints at adventure-ready upgrades
Following the launch of the BMW R 1300 GS, the company has teased the impending global debut of its more rugged sibling, the R 1300 GS Adventure. Scheduled for July 5, the teaser image offers a glimpse into the design and feature upgrades this highly anticipated machine will bring, take a look below
The "Adventure" moniker signifies a motorcycle built to conquer challenging terrains. The most striking visual change on the BMW R 1300 GS Adventure will be the new bodywork, featuring a larger fuel tank for extended range. Auxiliary lights integrated into the bodywork further enhance visibility. Improved wind protection comes in the form of a taller windshield. It also gets handlebar guards and more substantial engine guards.
The teaser hints at potential upgrades beyond aesthetics. The current Telelever and Paralever suspension system, renowned for its comfort and handling, might receive an improvement with increased travel and revised tuning to accommodate the extra weight and demands of adventure riding. This system separates the suspension and steering functions, resulting in smoother handling and improved rider comfort, especially on rough roads. Another exciting possibility is the inclusion of BMW's Automated Shift Assistant System (ASA) for the first time on the R 1300 GSA. This semi-automatic transmission would offer riders the convenience of automatic gear changes while retaining the option for manual control.
The engine is expected to be the same 1300cc boxer-twin that powers the standard R 1300 GS. This engine is known for its smooth power delivery and strong torque, churning out145 bhp at 7,750 rpm and 149 Nm of torque at 6,500 rpm. The engine will be paired with a six-speed gearbox, with the option of the new Automated Shift Assistant System (ASA).
The frame is likely an evolution of the stiff & lightweight steel frame used in the R 1300 GS. It will be optimised for handling the additional weight and potential for off-road riding.
The brakes are to be the same as the BMW 1300 GS. We can expect some tweaks in the feel and feedback. In terms of tyres, the previous model, the BMW R 1300 GSA, came equipped with Metzeler Tourance Next 2 tyres as original equipment in the sizes 120/70 R19 front and 170/60 R17 rear for all versions except the basic model. Currently, the BMW 1300 GS is offered with Metzeler Karoo 4 tyres as an optional fitment. Given the adventure focus of the R 1300 GS Adventure, Metzeler Karoo 4 tyres or similar adventure-oriented rubber can be expected as standard equipment.
The official reveal is set for July 5th. With a focus on enhanced range, improved rider protection, and potentially a first-ever semi-automatic transmission, this motorcycle promises to be the ultimate globetrotter, ready to devour any adventure route. Given that the BMW G 1300 GS made its India debut recently, the ADV variant would come to India by late 2024 or early 2025. You can read our review report here.
