The investment strategy focuses on integrating AI capabilities throughout Bosch's diverse portfolio.
German technology conglomerate Bosch has revealed plans for a whopping €2.5 billion investment in artificial intelligence (AI) development through 2027, positioning the company at the forefront of AI-driven innovation across multiple sectors.
The investment strategy focuses on integrating AI capabilities throughout Bosch's diverse portfolio, spanning mobility solutions, manufacturing operations, and consumer product lines.
Stefan Hartung, Chairman of the Bosch Board of Management was quoted as saying: "The breakthroughs in AI make it possible to open up completely new chapters in technology, accelerate the development of innovations, and turn these into business."
The company has established itself as a significant player in European AI development, having submitted over 1,500 artificial intelligence-related patent applications during the past five years. This extensive intellectual property portfolio positions Bosch among Europe's most active AI patent applicants, reflecting its commitment to technological advancement.
Bosch has established an ambitious revenue target of more than €10 billion by 2035 from AI-powered solutions specifically designed for assisted and automated driving systems. This comprehensive approach includes software development, advanced sensor technology, high-performance computing platforms, and sophisticated network infrastructure components.
The company's AI applications in the mobility sector focus on enhancing vehicle environmental perception capabilities and optimising route planning algorithms. Additionally, AI systems are streamlining development processes by using vehicle sensor data to train advanced generative AI models, resulting in significantly reduced development timelines.
Bosch is pioneering the implementation of agentic AI technology in manufacturing environments, enabling systems to execute autonomous decisions and actions without human intervention. The company has already deployed sophisticated multi-agent systems across its internal operations to monitor equipment performance, predict maintenance requirements, and optimise workforce allocation strategies.
According to Tanja Rueckert, Member of the Board of Management at Bosch, these AI-driven systems have successfully reduced unplanned equipment downtime while simultaneously increasing overall productivity levels across manufacturing facilities.
The company plans to launch a revolutionary platform in late 2025 that will enable external organisations to develop their own agentic AI systems without requiring extensive programming expertise. This initiative aims to democratise access to advanced AI manufacturing solutions while improving operational efficiency, cost management, and market responsiveness for partner companies.
Bosch has successfully integrated artificial intelligence across numerous consumer product categories, demonstrating the versatility of AI applications in everyday technology. Notable implementations include an AI-enhanced oven capable of recognising up to 80 different dishes automatically, advanced wall scanning devices that detect internal structural elements, and sophisticated e-bike systems featuring AI-powered range prediction capabilities.
The company has also applied AI technology to safety monitoring applications, including the development of intelligent crib systems designed to enhance child safety through advanced monitoring capabilities.
Meanwhile, at the automatica trade fair -- a premier event for automation and robotics -- Siemens unveiled its strategy to incorporate its Operations Copilot technology into autonomous transport systems and mobile robotics apps.
