The BSA Scrambler will directly rival the Royal Enfield Bear 650 and is heavier than the latter too.
BSA Motorcycles has finally launched its much-anticipated Scrambler motorcycle in the UK and Europe exactly a year after its global debut at the Bike Shed Moto Show in London. Based on the same platform as the BSA Gold Star 650, the new BSA B65 Scrambler costs £500 more than the former and at £5,999 (₹6.98 lakh) is currently its most expensive offering as well. Post this global launch, we’re expecting BSA Motorcycles to launch the same in India too later this year, just like it did with the BSA Gold Star 650 last year.
The BSA Scrambler continues to be powered by the same 652 cc, liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine that produces 45 bhp at 6,500 rpm and 55 Nm 4,000 rpm. The engine continues to be mated to a 5-speed gearbox, and it is fed by the same 12-litre fuel tank as well.

It is also built around the same frame as the Gold Star 650 but the geometry has been tweaked slightly here. The result is that the BSA Scrambler 650 is longer, heavier and even wider. For reference, the Scrambler weighs 218 kg, which is 5 kg more than the Gold Star 650 that tips the scales at 213 kg (with fuel). 41 mm telescopic fork and twin-shock absorbers with 5-step pre-load adjustability continue to handle suspension duties. Similarly, the 320 mm/ 255 mm disc brake set up with Brembo callipers has remained the same as well. But it rides on 19-/17-inch wheels shod with Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR rubber, which are ideal for mild off-roading.
Unlike the BSA Gold Star 650, which looks like a thorough retro-roadster, the BSA Scrambler comes across as a slightly modern bike. While the bulb headlight and tail light remains, instead of a dual-analogue console, the Scrambler gets an off-set fully digital, reverse LCD round cluster instead. But since there are no connectivity features on offer, the authentic motorcycling experience that one stands to gain with the Gold Star 650 can be found here too.

In the UK market, the BSA Scrambler is less expensive than its direct rival, the Royal Enfield Bear 650. If the same launches in India, then the same equation will carry forward too, but will it be better than the RE? We can’t wait to find out.
