In August 2025, BYD delivered 447 electric passenger vehicles, representing approximately 2.6% of the month’s total EV sales in India.
BYD India has swiftly emerged as a formidable contender in the country’s electric vehicle sector, reaching a landmark milestone of 10,000 cumulative vehicle deliveries by August 2025. This achievement underscores the brand’s accelerating adoption, advanced technology, and strategic expansion of its sales and service network across India.
Despite being a relative newcomer to the Indian EV market, BYD has leveraged its global expertise—backed by over 13 million NEVs sold worldwide and a 43.6% year-on-year brand value increase—to rapidly build consumer trust through extensive dealership coverage, robust after-sales support, and ecosystem partnerships. With 44 dealerships operational in major metropolitan and tier-2 cities, BYD has prioritized customer experience via nationwide roadside assistance, extended warranties, and a collaboration with Relux Electric to provide streamlined charging services.
However, BYD’s market share in India still trails established domestic and international rivals. In August 2025, BYD delivered 447 electric passenger vehicles, representing approximately 2.6% of the month’s total EV sales in India. For comparison:
Tata Motors, with a robust portfolio of five EV models including the Nexon EV and Tigor EV, continues to dominate the market, holding over 38% share in the passenger EV segment. MG Motor India, buoyed by the success of its Windsor EV and innovative battery-as-a-service (BaaS) model, commands nearly 29% of monthly EV sales. Mahindra Electric and Hyundai round out the top four, leveraging both established manufacturing bases and expanding EV line-ups.
BYD’s advantage lies in its vertical integration—from in-house battery production to advanced fast-charging capabilities—enabling competitive pricing and rapid technological iterations. The company’s global leadership in NEVs, coupled with plans to localize manufacturing in India, positions it well to challenge incumbents as tariff and localisation norms evolve.
As Tesla prepares for its September 2025 launch and domestic players continue to diversify their EV offerings, BYD’s growth trajectory will hinge on its ability to scale production, deepen local partnerships, and further adapt its models to Indian driving conditions and price sensitivities. With a visionary commitment to sustainable mobility and proven global success, BYD India is poised to capture a larger slice of the country’s burgeoning EV market in the coming years.
