CES 2024: Google and Samsung Join Forces for Cross-Device File Sharing

At CES 2022, Google unveiled several new features and updates to enhance the connectivity and integration between Android devices. A major focus was improving the ability to seamlessly share content across phones, laptops, headphones, TVs, smart home devices and cars.

One of the top announcements was bringing Samsung's Quick Share technology into Android's Nearby Share under a single solution called Quick Share. It allows Android and Chromebook users to easily see and share photos, files and text with nearby devices via a simple tap. The experience has been integrated across both platforms. Quick Share will also be available on Windows PCs through a pre-installed app from PC manufacturers like LG.

Android is also expanding Fast Pair support, which quickly connects Bluetooth headphones and speakers to Chromecast with Google TV and more Google TV devices later this year. It lets users instantly start music and media on their TV by pairing headphones or speakers nearby.

The company revealed that casting abilities are coming to more apps as well. TikTok videos can now be cast from phones to Chromecast built-in devices, with live casting on the way. Chromecast functionality is expanding to new devices like 2024 LG TVs, too.

Other announcements included synchronized playback between Pixel phones and tablets, support for the Matter smart home protocol, improved Android Auto integration with EV data and apps, and built-in Google services spanning more automobile brands.
