The Traffic Sentinel app was relaunched last year in September as the Traffic Prahari that empowers citizens to actively participate in traffic regulation.
Are you tired of all those blatant traffic rule floutings happening in front of your eyes on a daily basis? Well there’s good news for you, if you are from Delhi. The Delhi Traffic Police has developed an app which allows common citizens to actively report a wide range of such traffic offences and in turn contribute to the city’s traffic management system. This is basically ‘The Traffic Sentinel’ app, which was relaunched last year on September 1, as the Traffic Prahari app. It can be downloaded from Google Play store and registration on the app is done via your phone number using an OTP.

In order to report any offense, all you need to do is take a photo of the vehicle violating traffic rules, and then upload the same along with time and location details. A dedicated team of officials with headquarters in Todapur will verify the image and ensure that it is not linked to any personal grievance. If the same passes through, then a challan will be issued to the offending vehicle’s owner.
This initiative also financially rewards citizens, wherein there are four categories with monthly cash prizes ranging from ₹10,000 to ₹50,000. Within just three months of its relaunch, the Traffic Prahari app had already registered as many as 10,114 complaints, and was downloaded 14,526 times.

Offences that are acceptable for reporting include not wearing helmets, illegal parking on footpaths, driving against flow of traffic, vehicles with defective number plates, non-compliance with seat belts, red-light violations, and much more. The complainant can also see the progress of the case in the application via the app.
