The Citroën Basalt achieved a four-star rating for both adult and child occupant protection, with notable scores in both categories.
The recently launched Citroën Basalt coupe SUV has earned a four-star safety rating in the Bharat New Car Assessment Program (BNCAP) crash tests, marking it as the first Citroën vehicle to be evaluated by the safety authority in India. The tests, conducted in August, evaluated multiple variants of the Basalt, including the You and for the naturally aspirated (NA) petrol versions, and the Plus and Max for the turbo-petrol models. The results covered both manual and automatic transmission options. However, the disclaimer says results only apply to some variants, although it does seem to cover all the trims of the Basalt.
The Citroën Basalt achieved a four-star rating for both adult and child occupant protection, with notable scores in both categories. The adult occupant protection score was 26.19 out of 32, while the child occupant protection scored 35.90 out of 49.
The coupe SUV performed particularly well in side-impact tests. In the Side Movable Deformable Barrier and Side Pole Impact tests, which assess the vehicle’s resistance to side collisions, the Basalt scored a full 16/16, indicating excellent protection for adult occupants. However, in the frontal collision tests, the results were more mixed, with the coupe SUV earning a score of 10.19 out of 16, categorised between 'Marginal' and 'Adequate'.
The Basalt is equipped with several standard safety features across its variants, including six airbags, an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), an Electronic Stability Program (ESP), ISOFIX child seat anchors, and three-point seatbelts for all passengers. These features contributed to its strong performance in safety assessments, particularly in protecting both adult and child occupants from side impacts.
Following this assessment, the Citroën Basalt will now carry a safety label, detailing the crash test results for potential buyers.
