Clicks

This is not the first time a BlackBerry-style keyboard case has been made for the iPhone.

Clicks is a new type of case for the iPhone that adds a BlackBerry-style hardware keyboard, providing tactile feedback. It is also a backlit keyboard, leveraging the Lightning and Type C ports on the iPhone, while offering pass-through connectivity for these ports.

This company has been launched by famed tech YouTuber Mr Mobile, also known as Michael Fisher, and CrackBerry website founder Kevin Michaluk. It is now available for $139. The versions for the iPhone 14 Pro Max will be shipping in February, but the one for the iPhone 15 Pro Max is not only coming later, in March, but is also slightly more expensive at $159.

This is not the first time a BlackBerry-style keyboard case has been made for the iPhone.

Notably, there was Typo, which copied the BlackBerry design and was sued by the firm. This is a more modern take on the hardware keyboard for the iPhone with dedicated Apple keys.

It connects in a similar way to the Backbone controller, with the user being able to slide the phone in, with the Lightning and USB Type C connector jutting out on the inside of the case. It doesn’t use Bluetooth, and the brand claims its power draw is so low that there is almost no impact on the iPhone’s battery life.

There is one thing that’s notably missing – no magnet for MagSafe, though it should still work with wireless charging pads. The team at Clicks includes former BlackBerry and Apple employees.

“Clicks brings the tactility and precision of a physical keyboard to iPhone,” Fisher said, “so people don’t have to wait until they get back to their desks to create or communicate with the satisfying feedback only real buttons can provide.”

The biggest advantage, apart from the tactile feedback of a hardware keyboard and dedicated keys for an Apple keyboard including the CMD key, is the fact that users will be able to experience the entire width and breadth of the iPhone screen.
