As Suzuki pointed out, cow dung from as few as 10 cows can produce enough fuel to power a vehicle for a day.
In a recent statement, Suzuki Motor Corporation's President and Representative Director, Toshihiro Suzuki, highlighted that electric vehicles (EVs) alone may not be sufficient to meet the ambitious targets set by governments worldwide to achieve carbon neutrality. As a response to this challenge, Suzuki is actively developing region-specific clean mobility solutions, including the utilisation of compressed biomethane gas (CBG), biomass and alternative fuel-driven vehicles to reduce both fuel consumption and vehicular emissions.

Suzuki's regional approach to clean mobility has been made evident in its keen interest in India, a country with immense potential for generating clean energy through biomass. In particular, Toshihiro Suzuki emphasised the significant opportunity presented by utilising cow dung as a renewable energy source. As Suzuki pointed out, cow dung from as few as 10 cows can produce enough fuel to power a vehicle for a day. This approach to biogas production is promising due to India's abundant cattle population, the largest in the world, reaching 308 million in 2022.
India's substantial cattle population offers a unique advantage for sustainable energy production. The production of biogas not only taps into this resource but also helps reduce carbon emissions, making it a desirable option in the global push for carbon neutrality.

Maruti Suzuki, a subsidiary of Suzuki Motor Corporation, has already made strides in the clean mobility sector. The company currently garners nearly a quarter of its sales from vehicles that run on compressed natural gas (CNG), a cleaner alternative to conventional gasoline or diesel. Building upon this success, Maruti Suzuki is actively working on introducing compressed biogas-powered vehicles. These vehicles have the added benefit of being carbon-negative, meaning they remove more carbon dioxide from the environment than they emit.
