If you grew up with the names of cars Matiz and Cielo then you are aware of the South Korean automotive brand, Daewoo. While Daewoo as a brand has been renamed as POSCO International, its nostalgia was revived by Indian-brand Mangali Industries Limited in the form of Daewoo Lubricants.
Daewoo Lubricants, as you can guess from the name, will include lubricants for both commercial vehicles and passenger vehicles. The former will include the likes of trucks and tractors, while the latter includes both passenger cars and bikes. There will be two types of lubricants, Go Series and Max Series. The former is an affordable range while the latter will be its premium range of liquids. Daewoo lubricants for motorcycles will be available under the brand name, Thrill. For cars it will be called Torque, and for tractors and commercial trucks it will be called Tractor Trec and Gear Lubricants.
These lubricants will be made by and distributed across India by Mangali Industries Limited. The company recently inaugurated its manufacturing facility for the same at Wada near Mumbai in Maharashtra. In the coming years, there are also plans to open a second facility in Gujarat. Currently, the brand has a capacity of 40,000 MT on an annual basis, and at the same time can store 3,000 MT of base oil as well.
While Mangali Industries Limited has commenced business with Daewoo Lubricants in India with lubricants. The brand also plans to enter the Auto Car Care segment. As part of this requirement it will have several new products like engine oil, coolants, etc.
Daewoo Lubricants will initially roll out for the North and Central India market, and by the end of this year will be available in the rest of the country. Daewoo’s competitors include the likes of Petronas, Apar Lubricants, NFL, Exon Mobil, etc.
