Torsten Schmidt will become Managing Director and CEO of Daimler India Commercial Vehicles in early 2026, succeeding Satyakam Arya.
Daimler Truck’s commercial‑vehicle business in India will be led by a new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer from early 2026.
Torsten Schmidt, currently Chief Financial Officer of Mercedes‑Benz do Brasil, has been appointed to head Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (DICV). He will take over from Satyakam Arya, who has been named President and Chief Executive Officer of Hino Motors in Japan.
Schmidt’s appointment is part of a planned leadership succession at DICV. He will assume responsibility for the Indian commercial‑vehicle operation and will report to Achim Puchert, Chief Executive Officer of Mercedes‑Benz Trucks. Arya’s is moving to Hino Motors follows his tenure at DICV.
Torsten Schmidt joined Daimler in 1997 after completing his university studies in Industrial Engineering and Management in Germany and the United Kingdom.
Over the past 28 years he has held senior positions across Germany, India, Japan and Brazil. His experience includes leading production teams, sales organisations, and central functions at Daimler Truck, Mercedes‑Benz Trucks and Daimler Truck Asia.
Prior to his current role, Schmidt served as CFO of Mercedes‑Benz do Brasil and, before that, was responsible for finance and controlling of Daimler Truck’s business in Asia while based in Japan.
