The Ducati Superquadro Mono engine will power a new range of affordable Ducatis.

Ducati as a brand is renowned for innovations and its powerful engines. Its current line-up consists of L-twin and V4 engines that are employed in various genres of motorcycles in its extensive portfolio. Recently spy shots of a Hypermotard undergoing testing revealed that the Borgo Panigale based brand is developing a new single-cylinder powerplant and now it has been officially confirmed by Ducati themselves. The new engine is called the Ducati Superquadro Mono (single in Italian) and it will have 659 cc engine displacement. This new power plant will help Ducati offer its motorcycles at a more affordable price point thereby improving sales.

Ducati

Power output stands at 78.5 bhp at 9,750 rpm in stock trim and can be further enhanced to 85.6 bhp with an aftermarket performance exhaust system. This makes the new Superquadro Mono the most powerful single-cylinder production engine globally. Torque output stands at 67 Nm at 8,000 rpm. The new Ducati engine is based on the twin-cylinder engine which powered the Ducati 1299 Panigale superbike. The Superquadro Mono features the same combustion chamber, 116 mm bore piston, titanium intake valves and Desmodromic system as seen on the 1299 Panigale motor.

Ducati

Ducati’s focus was to make this new engine reliable and the Superquadro Mono engine has a 15,000 km service interval and the expensive Desmodromic valve service is at 30,000 km. Ducati hasn’t confirmed which models the new single-cylinder engine will make its debut with but since the Hypermotard has been spotted testing, we think it will be the first. Further details about the Superquadro Mono engine and the Ducati motorcycles will be shared in the first week of November just before the 2023 EICMA motorcycle show in Milan, Italy.
