Google Doodle highlights real-world conservation efforts across the globe that are helping to protect the environment.
Today's Google homepage features a new Doodle to celebrate Earth Day 2024. The Doodle features breathtaking aerial photographs that showcase the planet's rich biodiversity and natural beauty. Each letter in the Google logo highlights real-world conservation efforts across the globe that are helping to protect the environment.
The 'G' paid tribute to the Turks and Caicos Islands, known for their biodiversity and ongoing work to safeguard natural resources and endangered species. The 'O' highlighted Scorpion Reef National Park in Mexico, the largest reef system in the southern Gulf that protects coral and marine wildlife.
In addition, Iceland's Vatnajökull National Park, which has glaciers and unique ecosystems, was represented by the second 'O'. The 'G' featured Jaú National Park in Brazil, one of South America's largest protected rainforest areas. The letter 'L' represented Nigeria's Great Green Wall initiative, restoring degraded land from coast to coast in Africa. The final 'E' honoured the Pilbara Islands Nature Reserves in Australia, part of a network of reserves conserving ecosystems, habitats and threatened species Down Under.
The Doodle highlighted examples of environmental stewardship worldwide and served as a reminder on Earth Day of humanity's role in preserving the planet. This year's Earth Day theme is 'Planet vs. Plastics', advocating for policies to curb plastic pollution and transition to more sustainable systems.
Additionally, Google is working on new features that enhance its Maps and Search features for electric vehicle (EV) drivers, allowing them to locate compatible chargers precisely. These changes coincide with Earth Day; you can read them all here.
