This is the first signs of Royal Enfield’s electric ambitions with more concepts coming soon in the next few months
Royal Enfield’s first electric motorcycle platform has broken cover at EICMA 2023 with the brand new Him-E creating quite a whir. It is the new test bed for future electric vehicles that we will see arrive from the retro motorcycling brand.
Not much details regarding the platform’s specs were shared. Royal Enfield has stated that the new platform, though, is a ground up new motorcycle. However, it looks eerily similar to the older Himalayan, the 411 version, suggesting that the plans were set into motion a few years back.
Especially, the slim raised front section with the jerry can mounts is very much like the older Himalayan. And the jerry can mounts do serve a purpose still. You can spot small auxiliary batteries there, which could be removable and used to provide that little juice just in case you want to reach the nearest charging station, just like a jerry can does.
High-spec long-travel suspension (USD fork and monoshock), an aluminium swingarm, 21-/17-inch spoke wheel setup and dual purpose tyres are all seen on the Him-E. Switchable ABS is bound to be present but that’s something to be talked about on the final product.
And where better to test the Him-E than in the Himalayas, the harshest and toughest terrain on Earth proves to be quite a great testing facility for this electric testbed. This was complemented with the wind tunnel testing to reduce drag, improve aero efficiency and hence, more range.
This is the first of the electrics that we have seen from Royal Enfield as the brand claims there are more soon to follow in the months to come. While this is an interesting concept, the timeline of this making into production is likely to be around 2026 at the very least.
