This new engine will also help CF Moto realise its WSBK ambitions in the future.
Chinese motorcycle manufacturer CF Moto revealed to the world its first in-house developed V4 engine at EICMA 2024. Dubbed the "Core of Speed" and called V.04, it marks a significant milestone for the Hangzhou-based two-wheeler marque. This engine will help the brand recognise its WSBK ambitions down the line. Yes, CF Moto will have a 1,000 cc race bike in the future, and given how WSBK bikes are required to be homologated for road use, a 1,000 cc superbike from the Chinese brand will be on the cards as well. However, details about the same are still in the developmental phase.
As for the V.04 engine, it will feature a 90-degree crankshaft and will displace 1,000 cc to boast quite impressive performance figures. It will produce 209 bhp at 14,500 rpm and 114 Nm at 12,500 rpm while weighing just 61.5 kg (dry). Drawing from MotoGP technology, despite not competing in the series, the engine also features a counter-rotating crankshaft for improved cornering stability and reduced wheelie effect. Advanced engineering elements also include a "finger-follower" valve timing system, secondary overhead fuel injectors, and specially designed oval exhaust ports.

The development leverages CFMoto's strategic partnership with Pierer Mobility Group, KTM's parent company. Alongside the engine, the company also showcased its "Master of Speed" concept bike, featuring enclosed wheels and fairing winglets, though it remains a design prototype rather than a production model.

CF Moto is not the only manufacturer to go for a V-configuration engine for its superbikes. At EICMA 2024, Honda also revealed the world’s first V3 engine concept with an electric supercharger, which will later be used with the brand’s premium bikes in the future. Ducati also showcased its latest V2 engine, which the brand claims is its lightest two-cylinder engine as of yet. As for CF Moto's V.04 engine development, it signals the brand's ambitions in the high-performance motorcycle segment and, with that, its advent into motorsports as well.
