The crash tests were carried out Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) in Pune
If reports are to be believed, Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI), the leading automotive R&D organization and testing agency has started crash testing electric two-wheelers. In what can be seen as a very positive move by the agency to improve safety standards for electric two-wheelers despite the fact that there are no official mandatory crash testing for ICE and electric two-wheelers in India.
ARAI falls under the Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI) and these tests could have been carried out due to the several mishaps reported with electric two-wheelers, especially battery explosions that questioned the safety of such vehicles. The government responded by issuing new safety norms and this resulted in many Chinese imported EV brands disappearing from the market owing to their cheap and dodgy batteries.
The electric two-wheelers underwent rigid barrier and side pole testing with high-speed cameras to study the crash test impact. While there is no clarity yet on which two-wheeler brands underwent crash testing at ARAI due to confidentiality, it’s good to see manufacturers taking such extreme steps to improve safety of their products.
