Euro NCAP tested both vehicles for its Assisted Driving tests and both got similar results.
Mercedes-Benz E-Class and EQE SUV have received good ratings in the European New Car Assessment Programme’s (Euro NCAP) Assisted Driving tests. Both the cars received a ‘very good’ rating for their driver assistance systems. Euro NCAP tested the E 400e 4Matic and EQE 500 4Matic SUV (the one sold in India).
The Assisted Driving tests include two major tests – Assistance Competence and Safety Backup. In the former, Euro NCAP tests Driver Engagement which involves consumer information, system status, driver monitoring and driver collaboration. Assistance Competence also tests for Vehicle Assistance comprising speed assistance, adaptive cruise control performance and steering assistance. The Safety Backup tests include evaluating system failure, unresponsive driver intervention and collision avoidance.
The E 400e 4Matic tested by Euro NCAP scored 85 per cent in the Assistance Competence tests. In the driver engagement tests, where it also secured an 85 per cent score, it received 25 points out of 25 in the consumer information, system status and driver collaboration criteria. In the driver monitoring criteria, the E-Class only managed to secure 10 points out of 25.
In vehicle assistance tests, Mercedes’ sedan secured a 96 per cent rating. It secured 24.9 points out of 25 in the speed assistance criteria, 36.8 points out of 40 in the adaptive cruise control performance criteria and 35 points out of 35 in the steering assistance criteria.
In the Safety Backup tests, the E-Class achieved a 99 per cent rating. In these tests, it managed to secure 25 points out of 25 in the system failure and unresponsive driver intervention criteria. In the collision avoidance criteria, the E-Class received 49.3 points out of a total of 50.
Euro NCAP commented, “The E-Class from Mercedes-Benz provides very good Vehicle Assistance with a similar level of Driver Engagement. Combined with excellent safety back-up, the system, overall, offers ‘Very Good’ highway assistance.”
Like the E 400e 4Matic, the EQE 500 4Matic SUV tested by Euro NCAP scored 85 per cent in the Assistance Competence tests. With a score of 85 per cent in the driver engagement tests, the EQE SUV received the same scores as the E-Class in the consumer information, system status and driver collaboration criteria – 25 points out of 25 – and 10 points out of 25 in the driver monitoring criteria.
In vehicle assistance tests, the EQE SUV secured a 96 per cent rating with 24.3 points out of 25 in the speed assistance criteria, 36.8 points out of 40 in the adaptive cruise control performance criteria and 35 points out of 35 in the steering assistance criteria.
The EQE SUV managed a 99 per cent rating in the Safety Backup tests. In these, it achieved 25 points out of 25 in the system failure and unresponsive driver intervention criteria and 49.8 points out of 50 in collision avoidance criteria.
On its performance, Euro NCAP commented, “The EQE SUV from Mercedes-EQ provides very good Vehicle Assistance with a similar level of Driver Engagement. Combined with excellent safety back-up, the system, overall, offers ‘Very Good’ highway assistance.”
