VinFast had already trademarked the design patent of one of its electric scooters last year.
Vietnamese EV company, VinFast has created quite the buzz ahead of its official debut at the upcoming Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025. We have got exclusive details that the EV start-up will showcase its entire range of electric scooters at the Auto Expo, alongside its concise yet varied array of electric cars.
VinFast retails a total of seven electric scooters in its home country. The Motio, Evo200 and Evo200 Lite slot in as its entry-level models. The Feliz S and the Klara S are its intermediary scooters, while the VinFast Theon S and Vento S keep matters premium in the brand’s “High-Class” range. All are powered by a 3.5 kWh battery with different top speeds, and styles, except for the Motio which is powered by a 1.26 kWh battery.
Last year, VinFast made the headlines for two big reasons in the Indian context. First was its MoU signing with the Tamil Nadu government, which was followed by the establishment of its EV manufacturing plant in Thoothukudi spanning 400 acres. Soon after, the brand trademarked the design patent of the Klara S in India. From this, we can suggest that it might be the first electric scooter the Vietnamese brand launches in the future.
The VinFast Klara S is powered by a 3.5 kWh LFP battery paired with a 3 kW in-hub electric motor that is good for a top speed of 78 kmph. VinFast claims that the Klara S can do 194 km of range on a single charge which is quite a lot. Its competitors, which include the Ola S1 Pro and the TVS iQube, can cover 181 km and 150 km on a single charge using a bigger 4 kWh and 5.1 kWh battery, respectively. In Vietnam, the Klara S is priced at 3,20,00,000 VND (approx ₹1.09 lakh, ex-showroom). If VinFast manages to match the price of the electric scooter here, then on paper, it comes across as quite the compelling alternative.
On the sideline, VinFast also launched an electric bike called the DrgnFly, last year at the Consumer Electronic Show and is sold exclusively to the US market. It looks like a beefed-up electric cycle with chunky tyres, and it comes with pedal drive with the option to go in full EV mode. Will VinFast bring the DrgnFly to Bharat Mandapam too? That remains to be seen.
VinFast has quite ambitious plans in India. Alongside working on a range of premium and affordable electric cars and scooters, the brand will also be developing the charging infrastructure of the country by establishing charging stations. All in all, VinFast’s presence at the upcoming expo will not be without surprises, something that we’ll be looking forward to at the upcoming Bharat Mobility Global Expo which will be held from January 17-22.
