Reigning two time F1 world champion Max Verstappen ran away to his 7th consecutive race win, marking a world record 12th consecutive win for his Red Bull F1 team. Verstappen who surprisingly lost out on a pole position to arch rival Lewis Hamilton, overtook the 7-time world champion at the start of the race. In fact, Hamilton’s Mercedes was even overtaken by Oscar Piastri’s McLaren at the start of the race. Hamilton ended up P4 in the race.
Piastri also fell away and was usurped by his teammate Lando Norris who fended off a charging Red Bull of Sergio Perez for P2. George Russell miraculously managed to turn his disappointing P18 qualifying into a P6 overtaking even the Ferrari duo. Ferrari again had a torrid race with Leclerc’s race getting hobbled by a slow first pit stop and a 5 second penalty. He managed P7 ahead of his teammate Carlos Sainz Jr who managed P8.
The Aston Martin pair of Alonso and Stroll had a rather anonymous race finishing P9 and P10 respectively. Alex Albon again impressed in the Williams with his P11. Bottas finished in P12 ahead of his teammate Zhou who just managed P16 for the Alfa Romeo team.
Daniel Ricciardo who was returning to F1 with AlphaTauri managed P13, though critically ahead of Yuki Tsunoda who finished in P15. Nico Hulkenberg managed P14 for the Haas F1 team while his teammate Kevin Magnussen finished behind him in P17.
Logan Sargeant didn’t finish for Williams alongside the Alpine duo of Ocon and Gasly who crashed out of the race.
