These five two-wheelers really stood out amongst the numerous bikes and scooters we have ridden this year
The festive period is upon us and given that it is time to spoil you and your loved ones with a sweet two-wheeler, here are our picks of the top 5 two-wheelers that 2024 has brought so far.
Aprilia motorcycles don’t disappoint. Period. Yes, we have had to wait for years for Aprilia India to finally come out with its first made-in-India motorcycle but the RS 457 is nothing short of being called superb. Superlatives fall short praising this motorcycle as this is perhaps the best sportbike that one can buy in the sub-500 cc space. It is a bit committed for everyday riding and the suspension is firmly damped. But wring the 457 cc engine open and it will put a wide smile on your face. And it only gets better in the corners. All in all, it is the best track weapon that can be enjoyed within reason on daily rides.
If retro is more of your vibe, then perhaps the best retro motorcycle that we have ridden so far this year has to be the BSA Gold Star 650. This is perhaps the finest bike that Classic Legends has in its portfolio with a lovely big capacity single cylinder charm embracing you on every single ride. It can be easy going and chill almost always and yet still have that urgency when you call upon to get past some slow road obstacles. It is decently priced as well and overall, we were mighty surprised by just how good it is despite its rather simple brochure.
One of the biggest revolutionary motorcycles of the year has to be the Bajaj Freedom 125 CNG. The world’s first CNG-powered bike is a money saving and stylish commuter motorcycle that looks nothing like a typical commuter bike. The way Bajaj has gone about packaging the bike alone speaks volumes as on first glance, one cannot make out where the 2 kg cylinder is located. It returns phenomenal fuel efficiency and does deliver handsomely on the claim to slash fuel bills by half. Plus, if you do run out of CNG, there is a small petrol tank to get you to the nearest station.
Another super impressive 125 cc motorcycle that came this year is the Hero Xtreme 125R. It might be Hero’s sportiest 125 cc motorcycle but it really stands out. The engine is fun yet tractable enough to return good fuel efficiency. It can sustain decent highway speeds and is a blast to ride around town. Plus, it is perhaps the safest 125 cc commuter in the market as there is a single-channel ABS version of the bike available, the only one in the country to offer the aid. Did I mention it looks good? Yeah, Hero really made a hero-ic motorcycle.
How can we talk about the best of 2024 and not have a scooter in it, and that too an electric. And among the few that we have tested, the refreshed Bajaj Chetak has to be the most polished and neat experience that we have had so far. It might not look any different but a lot of work done underneath the metal body has worked in its favour. The performance is now up to the mark for commuting, the range on offer doesn’t give you much anxiety and the asking price is also pretty reasonable. All of which has helped the Chetak leap the iQube in monthly sales. Will it catch Ola? Who knows?
So, those were our picks of the top 5 best two-wheelers we have ridden so far and hopefully, that should help you narrow down your pick for purchase.
