Ford India filed a trademark for the electric Mustang in January 2022 and it has only been accepted now.
Ford is considering re-entering India as we recently found out via design patents of the Endeavour and job openings in India. Another recent development hinting towards this is the approval of the trademark for the Mustang Mach-e. However, the trademark was initially filed in January 2022, months after it announced its plans to exit the Indian market. Ford India is yet to officially announce its comeback in India.

Acko Drive reached out to Ford India regarding this but the American marque declined to comment and added, “It is a common industry practice to file design/name patent applications to safeguard intellectual property.” When exiting India in September 2021, Ford India announced that it would be present in the country by importing completely built units (CBUs) and one of the products in the plan was the Mustang Mach-e electric SUV.

The Mustang Mach-e is the electric crossover version of the iconic Mustang. It has many design elements of the Mustang like the three-stack taillamps, a large trapezoidal grille, a swooping roof line and the prancing horse emblem. Inside, the Mach-e’s biggest highlight is the humongous 15.5-inch infotainment touchscreen with a physical knob at the bottom for adjusting the volume. Other features include wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Bang & Olufsen sound system, a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless charger and more.

Ford’s electric Mustang is available in multiple variants, starting with the base-spec Select and going up to the GT variant. The Select and Premium variants get a rear-wheel drive setup with the former producing 266 bhp and 430 Nm, while the latter produces 290 bhp and 430 Nm. The GT variant comes with an all-wheel drive layout and produces 480 bhp and 860 Nm. There are two battery packs on offer with the base-spec variant getting a 72 kWh battery with a claimed range of 470 km. The Premium and GT variants get a larger 91 kWh battery and while the former has a range of 600 km, the latter has a range of 490 km.

If the Mustang Mach-e comes to India, Ford will most likely only bring the fully loaded GT variant. Expect the Mach-e to be priced north of ₹70 lakh (ex-showroom) and rival the likes of the Volvo C40 Recharge and Kia EV6.
