Ackerman contends that the film draws heavily from his 2016 book, The Tetris Effect.

Daniel Ackerman, the editor of Gizmodo, has initiated legal proceedings against Apple and other associated entities over the film "Tetris", exclusively showcased on Apple TV+. Ackerman contends that the film draws heavily from his 2016 book, "The Tetris Effect".

"The identical feel, tone, style, and sequences," Ackerman argued. He further stated that the scriptwriter, Noah Pink, depicted the game's launch as a "Cold War Espionage Thriller".

Information from Reuters reveals that Ackerman had extensive correspondence with The Tetris Company during the research for his book "The Tetris Effect". He insists that The Tetris Company was familiar with his work and had previously warned him of potential legal consequences if he tried to adapt his book for film or television.

This, Ackerman explains, is why he refrained from creating screen adaptations of his book, only to later discover that Apple's film appeared to freely reference it.

"The film overtly drew on numerous specific chapters and incidents from my book," he asserted.

Thus far, The Tetris Company has remained largely silent on the matter. However, proving his case might be a challenge for Ackerman; both Tetris and "The Tetris Effect" reference actual historical events, which are typically not shielded by copyright regulations.

Furthermore, Ackerman mentions that some creative aspects of the film, like a guide character transforming into a covert KGB operative, are founded on conjectures he postulated in his book.
