At its annual Google for India 2024 event in New Delhi, Google on Thursday introduced important updates to its artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot Gemini, including expanded regional language support for Indian users. The search engine giant is enhancing its voice-based interaction feature, Gemini Live, by adding support for Hindi and eight additional Indian languages.
This expanded support for Indian languages will let Gemini AI users engage in verbal conversations with the AI in their preferred language, both for input and responses.

The voice interaction feature, developed by Google DeepMind, was initially introduced at Google I/O event and was first made available to Gemini Advanced subscribers. The feature was later extended to free-tier Android users as well, and the feature was previously limited to English-only communication.

These features make the interaction similar to a regular human conversation. While it functions comparably to OpenAI-owned ChatGPT's voice capabilities, Gemini Live offers more voice options for AI's responses.
