Google has unveiled the highly anticipated Pixel 7A smartphone at its annual developer conference, Google I/O, held in San Francisco, California. Priced at Rs 43,999, the phone is slightly more expensive than its predecessor, the Pixel 6A, which launched last year. Google has announced an introductory price of Rs 39,999, and it also has a bunch of introductory offers. The Pixel 7A will be exclusively available through an e-commerce platform in India starting today. The Pixel 7A shares many similarities with Google’s current flagship phone, the Pixel 7. Both devices feature the same Tensor G2 processor, manufactured by Samsung on a 5nm node, 8 GB of RAM, and 128 GB of UFS 3.1 storage. The Pixel 7A will be offered in a single 128GB variant, just like the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro. The new phone sports a 6.1-inch OLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate, making its screen slightly smaller than the 6.3-inch display on the Pixel 7. This positions the Pixel 7A as one of the few relatively compact smartphones on the market, alongside the considerably more expensive Samsung Galaxy S23.
The Pixel 7A uses Corning Gorilla Glass 3, a couple of generations behind the Gorilla Glass Victus 2. Nevertheless, it is the first Pixel A phone to feature IP67 water and dust resistance, as well as wireless charging. Not many phones in this price range offer water and dust resistance. Additionally, the Pixel 7A boasts face unlock capabilities, an in-display fingerprint scanner, and stereo speakers. Pixel phones are renowned for their camera systems, and the Pixel 7A introduces a new dual-camera setup on the rear. The main wide-angle camera features a 64-megapixel sensor with an f/1.9 aperture and an optically stabilized lens. It also utilizes Google’s Super Resolution Zoom technology, enabling 8x lossless zoom. The device includes a 13-megapixel ultra-wide camera and a front-facing selfie camera. While Google’s HDR+ photography and AI capabilities are integrated into the camera system, it would be unwise to assume the Pixel 7A’s camera performance will match that of the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro. Google emphasizes software updates and security on its devices. The Pixel 7A is equipped with the Titan M2 security chip and comes with a commitment to five years of software updates. The phone also features a sizeable 4,385mAh battery, larger than that of the Pixel 7, and supports fast charging via the USB Type-C port.
In India, Google has expanded its after-sales support with over 28 third-party service centers across the country. Google has tied up with F1 Info Solutions, which is also a partner for Apple for after-sales in India. Alongside the Pixel 7A, Google launched its first foldable smartphone, the Pixel Fold, and its inaugural Pixel-branded tablet, the Pixel Tab, which was announced last year. As of now, these devices are not slated for release in India.
