Google has announced the launch of a new smartphone in India on May 11, exclusively through e-commerce giant Flipkart. This highly anticipated device is expected to be the much-leaked Pixel 7A, which will make its debut at Google's annual developer conference, Google IO, on May 10 in San Francisco.
The Google India Twitter account shared images of a phone bearing striking resemblance to the Pixel 7 series, aligning with previously leaked images of the speculated device. The phone also showcases a fresh color called Pale Blue, as indicated by the leaks. In addition to the Pixel 7A, Google is anticipated to unveil its first foldable smartphone—the Pixel Fold—with similar internal specifications.
Like its Pixel 7 and 7 Pro counterparts, the Pixel 7A will be exclusively available on Flipkart. The device is expected to be powered by a Samsung-made Google Tensor G2 processor, 8GB RAM, and 256GB of storage.
As with all Pixel smartphones, photography is set to take center stage, featuring a 64-megapixel primary camera by Sony—the IMX787 sensor—paired with a 12-megapixel ultra-wide lens. One can expect this phone to have the best still camera in its segment.
The Pixel 7A is likely to sport a 6.1-inch OLED screen with a 90Hz refresh rate, not too dissimilar from the Pixel 6a or Pixel 7. Wireless charging is also anticipated for this new model.
Straight out of the box, the phone will run on Android 13, despite Google's announcement of Android 14. Users can expect three years of feature updates and security patches, alongside the classic, smooth, and efficient vanilla Android experience.
In addition to Pale Blue, the Pixel 7A is expected to be offered in white and black. With the Pixel 6a's launch price at Rs 39,999, the 7a could be only slightly more expensive. The Pixel 7A is set to compete with devices like the Nothing Phone (1), Samsung Galaxy A54, OnePlus 11R, and Vivo V27 Pro. It will also compete with the iPhone SE 2 and Xiaomi 12 Pro which is now being sold for much lesser than its launch price.
