Maruti Suzuki's first all-electric vehicle, the e Vitara, has undergone crash testing ahead of its anticipated launch in the coming months. The production-spec model was first showcased at the Bharat Mobility Expo 2025, marking the automaker's entry into the electric vehicle (EV) segment.
As seen in released images, the recent crash test involved multiple types of impact scenarios. However, this evaluation is considered an internal trial rather than an official Bharat New Car Assessment Program (BNCAP) or Global New Car Assessment Program (GNCAP) test. While official safety ratings remain undisclosed, industry experts expect the e Vitara to achieve high marks, given its planned launch in both the Indian and global markets, including Europe.
The e Vitara is part of Maruti Suzuki’s larger EV strategy, with the company planning to introduce five electric models over the next five years. The vehicle is equipped with advanced safety features, including seven airbags, a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), an Electronic Parking Brake (EPB), and an Acoustic Vehicle Alerting System (AVAS).
Additionally, the car comes with a 360-degree camera, front and rear parking sensors, and, notably, a Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS), making it the first Maruti Suzuki model in India to offer this feature.
Maruti Suzuki has not yet disclosed specific crash test ratings or structural enhancements for the e Vitara. However, with the growing emphasis on safety in the Indian automotive market and the vehicle’s positioning for international sales, the company is expected to prioritise compliance with stringent safety standards. Further details on official crash test results and launch specifications are expected in the coming months.
