Tata Motors’ two flagship SUVs recently received a 5-star rating from Global NCAP.

The Tata Safari and Harrier recently received a 5-star rating in the first round of Bharat New Car Assessment Programme (Bharat NCAP) crash tests. It is interesting to note that Tata Motors’ flagship SUVs were also the latest cars to be tested by Global NCAP and secured a similar rating.

Commenting on Safari and Harrier’s Bharat NCAP scores, Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd and Tata Passengers Electric Mobility Ltd, said, “Bharat-NCAP is a significant step forward as it provides customers with a credible, objective score to evaluate the safety aspects of various vehicles.”

Tata Motors told Acko Drive that it sent Safari and Harrier to Bharat NCAP as the SUVs are the latest models introduced by the brand. It also said the brand deemed it fitting to send the latest cars, despite their recent Global NCAP crash tests, since the majority of its portfolio has been tested by the global safety watchdog.

When asked which other models are in the pipeline to be tested by Bharat NCAP, Tata Motors declined to comment.

Chandra added, “At Tata Motors, safety is at the core of our DNA and we are honoured to win this maiden Bharat-NCAP certification with an exemplary 5-star rating for two of our vehicles. We remain committed and will continue to work towards improving vehicle safety holistically.”
