Adventure motorcycling in the Himalayas has steadily gained popularity over time, with routes such as Manali and Leh-Ladakh attracting riders from across the country. While the appeal lies in dramatic landscapes and challenging terrain, the region also presents significant risks, including unpredictable weather, rough roads, and limited access to immediate medical assistance.
Recognising a gap in basic first-aid preparedness among riders, Hero MotoCorp has introduced an innovative safety-focused initiative titled Prayers for Safety. Conceptualised by Saatchi & Saatchi India, the initiative reimagines traditional Tibetan prayer flags as portable first-aid kits designed specifically for Himalayan bikers.
Prayer flags are widely used by riders in mountain regions, often tied to handlebars as symbols of protection and good fortune. Drawing on this deeply ingrained cultural practice, Hero MotoCorp has transformed the symbolic flags into a practical safety solution that riders can carry throughout their journey.

The redesigned prayer flags incorporate essential first-aid supplies, offering riders a simple and accessible way to be better prepared for minor injuries or emergencies in remote areas. By embedding safety equipment into an existing ritual, the initiative aims to encourage preparedness without disrupting the riding experience or local traditions.

The Prayers for Safety kits have been distributed across key motorcycling hubs in Manali and Leh-Ladakh. Availability has been ensured through bike rental outlets, popular bikers’ cafés, and specially designed flag dispensers placed at strategic locations. This approach allows riders, particularly those renting motorcycles locally, to easily access first-aid resources before embarking on long or isolated routes.
Commenting on the initiative, Aashish Midha, Head of Marketing, Hero MotoCorp Ltd., said, “At Hero MotoCorp, rider safety is not an afterthought – it’s a fundamental part of who we are and what we stand for. As the world’s largest manufacturer of motorcycles and scooters, we recognize that true mobility means ensuring every rider, every family and every community returns home safely.”
