The Honda SP160 is a sportier alternative to the Honda Unicorn 160 with some modern features.
Honda has expanded its 160cc portfolio by launching the SP160. The Honda SP160 is a sporty 160cc commuter bike and will be positioned between the Unicorn 160 and the XBlade. The new Honda bike is an attempt by the Japanese brand to cash in on the popularity of the SP brand which we have seen in the 125cc space with the Honda Shine SP 125.
As expected the styling of the new bike is heavily inspired from its 125cc sibling and it does look sporty but while maintaining the commuter styling ethos. An interesting design element is the M-shaped LED tail light, which looks unique but what’s confusing is that there is no ‘m’ alphabet in the name of the bike. The new Honda SP160 is offered in 6 different colours.
On the features front the SP 160 gets a LED headlight and tail light. The instrument console is a fully digital LCD unit, unlike the analogue unit on the Unicorn. The layout of the LCD display is similar to that of the Honda CB300R. It gets a gear position indicator and data such as fuel efficiency, average speed and fuel consumed. There are no connected features or navigation.
Powering the bike is a 163cc, air-cooled engine delivering 13.2 bhp and 14.6 Nm of torque, this is the same engine and same state of tune as seen on the Honda Unicorn 160. The underpinnings are shared with the Unicorn 160, which means the frame, suspension hardware and even the brakes are similar. However, the Honda SP160 gets a twin disc brake variant and single-channel ABS comes as standard.
The Honda SP160 is priced at Rs 1,17,500 for the base variant and Rs 1,21,900 for the twin disc variant (prices are ex-showroom, Delhi). The new Honda 160cc bike will compete with the Bajaj Pulsar P150, Yamaha FZ-X and the TVS Apache RTR 160 2V. Deliveries for the Honda SP160 will commence by mid-August across our country.
