Honda and Yamaha have reached a new understanding. The former will supply the latter with its e-scooters, EM1 e and BENLY e. This new agreement builds on the same understanding of a possible business alliance that both brands signed in 2016.
Back then, Honda had agreed to supply Yamaha with its 50 cc scooter, the Tact and Giornon, to Yamaha as an OEM, and the latter later retailed them by renaming them to Jog and Vino, respectively, in Japan. The companies had also discussed possibilities in the future to collaborate towards the popularisation of electric motorcycles.

In 2019, Honda, Yamaha, Kawasaki, and Suzuki established the Swappable Battery Consortium for Electric Motorcycles to popularise electric motorcycles. This consortium also discussed the common issues plaguing the electric mobility segment, including charging infra and range.
The latest agreement between the two brands continues the consortium's goals. Both the EM1 e and BENLY e are powered by Honda’s swappable battery pack, the Honda Mobile Power Pack. Moreover, to popularise electric motorcycles in Japan, the two companies will also work towards enhancing their respective line-up with more such mutual products.
