Honor is calling this its toughest phone yet, thanks to its reinforced body and display with drop protection.
The Honor X9b was recently launched in India as the second phone from the company. It is a mid-range phone that is being offered in two colour options: Midnight Black and Sunrise Orange. Honor is calling this its toughest phone yet, thanks to its reinforced body and display with drop protection. I have just spent a few hours with the X9b, and here are my initial impressions.
In terms of design, the X9b definitely looks and feels high-end. It has a sleek body with curved-edge glass on the front and back, and comes in two stylish colour options. It measures 7.98 mm thick and weighs 185 grams.
The textured back not only looks great but also provides good grip. The phone has a nice heft, and its build quality seems solid, with a premium feel.
Honor took inspiration from luxury watches for the circular camera module on the rear, giving the X9b an elegant look. The back is made of plastic, and while the Black option is quite plain, the Sunrise Orange version has a nice vegan leather finish, giving it a premium feel.
The Honor X9b features a 6.78-inch AMOLED display with a 2652x1080 resolution, offering vibrant and sharp visuals. The display supports a 120Hz peak refresh rate, making everything feel fast and fluid.
Thanks to the high-resolution screen, colours pop nicely and content looks sharp. It's an AMOLED panel, so blacks are inky deep, and viewing angles are excellent.
The display also features HDR10+ and 1200 nits peak brightness. Honor claims that it offers excellent visibility in various lighting conditions.
The Honor X9b boasts of a five-fold eye protection certification from SGS. Honor has incorporated a shock-absorbing material into this phone's construction, which it calls Ultra-Bounce Anti-Drop Technology. This creates a protective structure, reinforcing the display's durability in day-to-day use.
Under the hood, we have the Qualcomm Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 processor, which delivers decent and reliable performance in ordinary use. The 8GB of RAM ensures good multitasking, and gaming is also solid, thanks to the Adreno 710 GPU. That said, I will be testing the Honor X9b in detail to see how it performs over a longer period of time.
The Honor X9b has a 5800mAh battery, which the company claims will last for up to three days when used moderately. While this phone supports 35W fast charging, it does not come with a charging adapter inside the box. The company is bundling one for free as an introductory offer, though.
The Honor X9b's triple rear camera setup consists of a 108-megapixel primary camera (f/1.75), 5-megapixel ultra-wide camera, and 2-megapixel macro camera. The ultrawide gives you more framing options. For selfies, there's a 16-megapixel front camera. Video recording maxes out at 4K 30fps, and I wish there was OIS for steadier footage.
We will be testing the cameras on the Honor X9b in detail for our full review.
The Honor X9b makes a solid first impression with its tough body, superb display, speedy performance, and battery life claims.
The camera and design are also impressive. I'll need to test it further for my full review, but so far, I like what the X9b brings to the table.
