Hyundai Motor Company has achieved a significant milestone by producing its 100 millionth vehicle, just 57 years after its foundation. This accomplishment places Hyundai among the fastest-growing automakers globally. To commemorate the event, a special ceremony was held at the company’s Ulsan Plant in Korea, where the 100 millionth vehicle—an Ioniq 5—was handed over to a customer in a symbolic gesture of gratitude.
The milestone vehicle, an Ioniq 5, rolled off the final inspection conveyor belt at Ulsan’s shipping centre in a ceremony attended by company executives and employees. In addition to the official handover, Hyundai celebrated the event with a commemorative display of “100 million and 1,” highlighting both the landmark achievement and the company’s continued progress.
Jaehoon Chang, President and CEO of Hyundai Motor Company, acknowledged the support of the company’s global customer base in making this milestone possible. “Reaching global cumulative production of 100 million vehicles is a meaningful milestone that was possible thanks to our customers around the world who have chosen and supported Hyundai Motor since the very beginning,” Chang remarked during the event.
Hyundai's Ulsan Plant, where the celebratory event took place, holds historical significance as the birthplace of Korea's automotive industry. Established in 1968, Ulsan was the site of Korea’s first independently mass-produced model, the Hyundai Pony, which rolled off production lines in 1975. The plant continues to be central to Hyundai’s global operations, particularly in its shift toward electrification, as the company plans to establish a dedicated electric vehicle (EV) facility at the site.
The Ulsan Plant is recognized as one of the largest automobile manufacturing complexes in the world, capable of producing over 1.4 million vehicles annually. It remains the cornerstone of Hyundai’s global manufacturing footprint, which has expanded to include facilities in Turkey, India, the United States, and the Czech Republic.
Hyundai’s growth trajectory has been marked by continuous innovation in product development and expansion into new markets. Over the years, the company has introduced a number of landmark brands, including the luxury Genesis line and the high-performance N brand. Hyundai has also made a strong push into the electric vehicle (EV) market, with the Ioniq 5—a vehicle based on its dedicated Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP)—representing the company’s forward-thinking approach to sustainable mobility.
In 2013, Hyundai marked another major milestone, surpassing 50 million vehicles produced. The company's momentum has only accelerated since, with the launch of key models and technologies aimed at reshaping the future of transportation.
In addition to its production success, Hyundai has continued to innovate with new technologies and forward-thinking manufacturing processes. Last year, the company launched the Hyundai Motor Group Global Innovation Center in Singapore (HMGICS), which serves as a hub for smart urban mobility solutions. The centre focuses on integrating advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, and smart manufacturing into future production lines. This initiative is aimed at enhancing efficiency in Hyundai’s global production network.
One of the key future projects is the Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America (HMGMA), a state-of-the-art production facility that will leverage technologies developed at HMGICS. This smart factory concept is designed to set new benchmarks in manufacturing efficiency and sustainability.
