India's premier crash testing authority, Bharat NCAP, has tested the Completely Knocked Down (CKD) variant of the Hyundai Tucson petrol. The vehicle achieved an impressive 5-star rating for both adult and child occupant protection. Interestingly, Bharat NCAP announced the Tucson's results first, prioritising it over Hyundai's more popular models. However, the rating applies to only the petrol trims of the Tucson—Platinum and Signature.
BNCAP crash-tested the 2-litre Signature variant of the SUV in its petrol automatic iteration, and it scored 30.84 points out of 32 for adult occupant protection. In the frontal offset deformable barrier test, the Hyundai Tucson secured 14.84 out of 16 points, while in the side movable deformable barrier test, the SUV scored a perfect 16 points. The test report noted that the overall protection for the driver and front passenger was good, with adequate protection to the chest area.
The SUV received 41 points for child occupant protection out of a possible 49. The child restraint systems for both 18-month-old and 3-year-old dummies were installed rearward-facing in the rear seats, providing a dynamic score of 24 out of 24. The vehicle assessment score was 5 points out of 13, and a full 12 out of 12 points were awarded for the child restraint installation. These ratings apply to all the petrol variants of the Tucson.
