Supported by Compagne Sharenne, Takale aims to finish stronger in the next Dakar Rally, a grueling test of resilience.
India is poised to make a strong comeback at the Dakar Rally 2026, with seasoned racer Sanjay Takale leading the charge. As the only Indian four-wheeler entrant for the second consecutive year, Takale's participation underscores the nation's growing footprint in global motorsport. Takale has so far had a storied motorsports career spanning over 35 years, including motorcycles, cars, and international rallies.
Takale’s previous outing at Dakar yielded an 18th place overall finish. "Dakar changes you once you race it; you are never the same," he said in a statement announcing his return.
For Dakar 2026, Takale has dubbed his return "Dakar 2.0," emphasising better preparation and strategic evolution. Backed by the same team, Aerpace Racers, and with technical support from Compagne Sharenne in France, he aims to not just complete the rally but to improve his ranking. "My goal is simple: to see the finish line and to finish stronger," he stated. The Dakar Rally is widely considered the ultimate test for drivers and vehicles alike.
Beyond the racetrack, Takale serves as Director of Aerpace Industries. According to his bio, he believes the Dakar Rally is a platform that showcases India's mobility and engineering prowess, aligning motorsport with real-world applications.
