The passenger vehicles segment saw the highest export of 37,329 models as compared to 25,990 PVs shipped overseas in the same period last year.
The automotive exports sector kicked off 2026 with strong momentum, recording key year-on-year growth (YoY) across most vehicle categories as international demand for Indian-manufactured vehicles continued to strengthen. India's automobile industry exported 76,822 vehicles to key global markets in January 2026 as compared to 57,585 vehicle shipment overseas in the same period in 2025, said data by Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) on Friday. This translates into a 33.4 per cent increase in the total vehicles exported from India in January.

Amongst all categories, the passenger vehicles (PV) segment saw the highest export of 37,329 models as compared to 25,990 PVs shipped overseas in the same period last year with an increase of 43.6 per cent. India shipped 38,421 utility vehicles (UVs) in the month of January as against 30,457 shipments in January 2025 which is an increase in total UV shipments by 26.1 per cent.
The rise in automobile exports from India has been driven by robust demand for cars in the passenger vehicles and utility vehicles categories.
The export of vans from India, however, fell in this period by 5.8 per cent as the country shipped 1,072 vans out of India as compared to 1,138 models shipped in the same period last year.
