The Volkswagen Taigun earned a perfect 5-star crash test rating in the Latin NCAP results.
Volkswagen has once again showcased its commitment to safety, with the India-made Volkswagen Taigun earning a perfect 5-star crash test rating in the Latin NCAP (New Car Assessment Program) results. Building upon the success of the Volkswagen Virtus, which also achieved a 5-star rating last year, the Taigun has impressed with its outstanding performance across various safety categories.
Alejandro Furas, Secretary General of Latin NCAP said, “Volkswagen showed once again their commitment towards safer vehicles in the region comfortably reaching five stars level.”
During the rigorous Latin NCAP testing, the Volkswagen Taigun scored exceptionally well in all areas, highlighting its dedication to passenger and pedestrian safety. The car achieved a remarkable 92.47 per cent for adult occupant protection, 91.84 per cent for child occupant protection, 55.14 per cent for pedestrian protection and vulnerable road users, and 83.28 per cent for safety assists. Additionally, all the standard and tested equipment showcased excellent performance.
Stephan Brodziak, Latin NCAP Chairman said, “Volkswagen is recognized for the consistency in vehicle safety with which it has equipped the Taigun in its most recent update, the brand has maintained an outstanding protection level.”
The Taigun underwent a series of challenging tests to evaluate its safety features thoroughly. These tests included assessments for frontal impact, side impact, side pole impact, whiplash protection, pedestrian protection, Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) in city and interurban scenarios, speed assist, and electronic stability control (ESC). Notably, a significant portion, at least 60 per cent, of the Taigun models sold in the region are equipped with AEB, further enhancing pedestrian protection.
In the frontal impact test, the Taigun demonstrated marginal to good protection for adult occupants, with the vehicle's structure and footwell area rated as stable. The side impact test showed excellent protection, while the side pole impact test revealed marginal protection for the chest but good protection for the head and other body regions. The Taigun also received a good rating for whiplash protection.
In tests involving child occupants, the Taigun provided full protection during dynamic scenarios and scored perfectly for Child Restraint system installation. Pedestrian protection evaluations indicated adequate to good head protection in most areas, although there were some areas with poor protection. The lower leg received good protection, while the upper legs showed weaker protection.
The Taigun offers advanced safety features, including Autonomous Emergency Braking for Vulnerable Road Users, which can significantly enhance pedestrian protection. Latin NCAP encourages Volkswagen to meet fitment requirements and conduct further testing to evaluate its performance. Additionally, the Taigun comes equipped with standard Seat Belt Reminder (SBR) systems in the front and rear seat rows, as well as standard speed limitation assistance.
The Volkswagen Taigun's outstanding 5-star safety rating in the Latin NCAP test reflects the brand's unwavering commitment to passenger safety. With impressive scores across various safety categories, the Taigun has proven its ability to provide excellent protection for both adult and child occupants.
