Apple's keynote conspicuously avoided mentioning the enhanced battery capacities
Contrary to its usual practice of remaining tight-lipped about battery specifications, Apple's latest iPhone 15 series does indeed feature slightly larger batteries across all four variants. While this had been the subject of rumours for several months, Apple's keynote on Tuesday conspicuously avoided mentioning the enhanced battery capacities, instead claiming identical battery life to the iPhone 14 models.
Apple has traditionally refrained from disclosing the battery sizes of its devices, and this year was no exception. However, regulatory authorities in China have let the cat out of the bag as the devices underwent certification ahead of their market launch in the country.
The increase in battery sizes is modest but noteworthy. The iPhone 15 sports a 3,349 mAh battery, a slight bump up from the 3,279 mAh battery in the iPhone 14. Similarly, the iPhone 15 Plus features a 4,383 mAh battery, compared to the 4,325 mAh battery in its predecessor. The iPhone 15 Pro has seen its battery capacity rise to 3,274 mAh from 3,200 mAh, while the high-end iPhone 15 Pro Max now boasts a 4,422 mAh battery, up from 4,323 mAh in the iPhone 14 Pro Max.
This incremental upgrade comes as Apple touts a more efficient processor built on TSMC's 3nm process. The company claims that the new CPU is more effective and the GPU more powerful, all while consuming less energy. Additionally, the displays on the new iPhones are not only brighter but reportedly more energy-efficient as well.
Such minor improvements in battery capacity could potentially lead to slight enhancements in battery life, which might explain why Apple chose not to highlight these changes during its presentation.
