The Jaguar 4-Door GT will be showcased by the end of this year

JLR announced back in 2021 that it will launch 6 all-electric cars by 2026. 3 of them would be Jaguars and we will see the first of the 3 as soon as the end of this year and it will go on sale in 2025. A report in Autoexpress says that the car will be 4-door GT and we’ll see it bring with it a new design language as well. JLR CEO, CEO Adrian Mardell told Autoexpress, that his predecessor asked them to come back with just four words to explain the emotion and what that brand actually stands for. The words were were exuberant, unique, fearless and progressive. He said, ““The designers went away. They produced 18 full-sized clay models in three groups. Gerry [McGovern, JLR’s chief creative officer) asked 20 people to review those models and 19 of us chose one particular design. That was the design from Massimo Frascella [JLR design director].”

Now it will be a family of cars that will be based on this new design language. Mardell said, “It’ll be a family. It's really important that there's an association, a family look for it. But to actually meet the design intent here, because there's going to have to be a wider wheelbase to meet the exuberance, that's why Jaguar needs its own architecture.”

Now the 4-door GT will be built in Solihull in the West Midlands, UK. Expect it to be the most powerful Jaguar ever built and it will offer a range of upto 700 kms on a single charge. Expect pricing to be in the range of 1,00,000 pounds (Rs. 1 crore approximately)

The talk about a dedicated electric platform is something that has been going on for half a decade and it was in April this year that the company announced an investment of 15 billion pounds over the next five years. It also made it very clear that there will be two platforms, catering to two different brands – the JEA (Jaguar Electrified Architecture) for Jaguar cars and EMA (Electrified Modular Architecture) for the SUV family which comprises of everything from the Defender, Evoque, Velar to the Discovery.

What happens then to the folks at Castle Bromwich, which has been Jaguar’s home? Mardell said, “The intention is to use it for stamping facilities. At some point we're probably going to have some form of recycling within the facility there. We may use it for SVO (JLR’s Special Vehicle Operations performance arm). We may use it for a pilot plant. We just reassured people that their jobs are not under threat. They may need training, but you know we're retraining 29,000 people for electrification, so join the group. I'm getting retrained on a day-to-day basis in this job. Great people want to continue to develop and train and we want our people to continue to develop.”
