Jaguar has offered a glimpse into its electric future with the unveiling of the Design Vision Concept. This grand tourer will serve as the foundation for the brand's transformation into an ultra-luxury electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer. The concept, teased in a shadowy rear-facing image, will debut on December 2 during the 2024 Miami Art Week.
The Design Vision Concept teaser reveals a fastback roofline, notably missing a traditional rear window. This design choice echoes recent innovations seen in models like the Polestar 4, which replaces the rear window with camera-based systems for rear visibility. The teaser follows Jaguar’s announcement of a new logo and branding. It is part of its strategy to shed its performance-driven legacy in favour of a sophisticated, fashion-forward identity aimed at contemporary luxury consumers.
This shift is part of Jaguar's broader "Reimagine" plan, first announced in 2021, which outlines the company's transition to an all-electric lineup. Jaguar's CEO has described this as a "bold transformation" designed to position the automaker as a global leader in luxury EVs.
While the teaser hints at a futuristic design, earlier photos of a heavily camouflaged prototype for the grand tourer suggest a blend of modernity and heritage. The prototype features a long hood, a bluff front end, and a rearward-shifted cabin reminiscent of the iconic Jaguar XK. However, the flowing, sensual curves that defined Jaguars of the past appear to have been replaced by cleaner, more angular lines, signalling a new design direction.
The production version of the Grand Tourer will debut next year, with customer deliveries expected by 2026. The vehicle will be built on Jaguar’s purpose-designed EV platform, the Jaguar Electrified Architecture (JEA), which distinguishes it from Land Rover's models despite their shared parent company.
Jaguar has confirmed that the grand tourer will be priced starting at approximately £100,000 (around $163,000), firmly positioning it in the ultra-luxury segment. This marks a significant departure from Jaguar's more affordable past offerings. The automaker has also teased class-leading performance, with the grand tourer set to deliver more power than any previous Jaguar road car and a range of 692 km under the WLTP cycle. Even under the stricter EPA testing, the range is expected to exceed 483 km, making it competitive in the growing luxury EV market.
The grand tourer is just the first of three EVs Jaguar plans to launch by the end of the decade, with a large SUV and sedan expected to follow. However, the transition is not without risks. Jaguar has already begun phasing out its existing lineup in some markets, including its home market of the U.K., as dealerships focus on clearing current inventory.
