Mazda Vision X Coupe debuts with innovative CO2 capture tech. It is powered by a plug-in hybrid system integrating a two-rotor rotary turbo engine with a motor and battery.

Mazda has unveiled the Vision X Coupe at the Japan Mobility Show 2025, a plug-in hybrid concept with advanced eco-innovation. At its core is pioneering carbon capture technology, positioning the vehicle as a vision for sustainable mobility.

Carbon Capture Tech

The Vision X integrates Mazda’s proprietary CO2 capture system with carbon-neutral fuel derived from microalgae. As microalgae grows, it absorbs CO2 and stores oil in its cells, which is extracted to produce fuel.

The vehicle’s exhaust emissions are also captured directly via the onboard tech, recycling the CO2 for crop cultivation or high-performance carbon materials like composites. This closed-loop approach minimises environmental impact, turning emissions into resources and enhancing the concept’s net-zero ambitions.

Mazda emphasises this as a scalable solution for future vehicles, reducing reliance on fossil fuels while promoting circular economy principles.

Other Features

Drawing from Mazda’s Kodo philosophy, the four-door coupe measures 198.8 inches long, 78.5 inches wide, and 58.3 inches tall, with a 121.3-inch wheelbase.

It features a fully enclosed grille with fang-like accents, slender LED headlights, and a wide lower air intake. The body boasts flush door handles, camera-based mirrors, a rakish windscreen, and a sloping roofline ending in playful taillights with a distinct rear window, evoking a Japanese grand tourer.

Power comes from a turbocharged rotary engine paired with an electric motor and battery pack, delivering 503 horsepower. It offers over 100 km of electric-only range.

Inside, the cabin seats four with two individual rear chairs and two-tone upholstery. Highlights include a digital instrument cluster with retro-inspired triple gauges, a steering wheel-embedded display, a front passenger screen, and a wide centre console with a baseball-inspired shifter. Unique trim accents add a premium touch.

Though aimed at 2035, the Vision X hints at production possibilities, reviving rotary tech in a flagship form.
