Filing a patent application doesn’t guarantee a market launch, and in this case, the patent of the Jeep Wagoneer S was filed more than three years ago.

Jeep, formerly part of the Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA), has stayed away from all the attention in the last couple of years. With no aggressive launch strategy for the Indian market, the future of Jeep has looked bleaked in the country. In the midst of uncertainty, the Office of Controller General of Patents, Designs, and Trademarks has approved a design patent of Jeep Wagoneer S.

The application for this patent was filed more than three years ago on 28 February 2023 by FCA but has been granted approval only recently. Globally, Jeep and its new parent company, Stellantis, have been focussing on building more electrified platforms including hybrids and fully-electric vehicles. The Wagoneer S is one of them.

Jeep Wagoneer S: What we know so far

First introduced in 2024, the Jeep Wagoneer S built on the STLA Large platform. In terms of size, it is smaller than the Wagoneer and the Grand Cherokee. In terms of dimensions, it measures 4,887 mm in length, 1,899 mm in width, 1,645 mm in height and has a 2,870 mm long wheelbase.

The Jeep Wagoneer S made its debut in the United States and Canada in the fall of 2024. Presently priced at $71,995 (approx. ₹66.42 lakh) in the U.S., the model patented in India looks very familiar to the Wagoneer S sold in North America. The SUV features Jeep’s iconic vertical-slat grille, which is illuminated but closed off. Subtle yet pronounced body creases lend the vehicle a refined and sophisticated character, while carefully placed chrome accents add to its visual appeal.

The LED headlights are housed in a sleek, slim unit, further enhancing the front-end design. At the rear, the SUV features connected LED tail lamps and a large roof spoiler with a distinctive aerodynamic design. From the side, the slightly sloping roofline stands out, further accentuated by silver detailing around the D-pillar.

If and when launched in India, the Jeep Wagoneer S is most likely to come as a fully-imported CBU. Hence, we expect battery and motor specifications to be similar to the international-spec model. The Jeep Wagoneer S gets a 100.5 kWh lithium-ion battery pack that offers a claimed range of up to 488 km on a single charge.

The battery powers a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup as standard, delivering up to 600 bhp and 837 Nm of peak torque. The SUV also supports Level-2 fast charging, allowing the battery to get replenished from 20% to 80% in around 23 minutes. However, we don’t have any confirmation if Stellantis is planning to introduce the Jeep Wagoneer S in India anytime soon.
