Young drivers take centre stage at Srinagar's Formula 4 demo, signalling a bright motorsport future.
On Sunday, Srinagar hosted India's first-ever Formula 4 demonstration event against the scenic backdrop of Dal Lake. Spectators got a taste of what's to come in the upcoming season as Racing Promotions Private Limited (RPPL) and JK Tyre showcased Wolf GB08 cars and Formula 4 cars driven by rising motorsport stars. Young drivers Sohil Shah (co-champion of IRL 2023), Rishon Rajeev (Formula 4 Vice Champion), and Shriya Lohia (Formula 4 India driver) thrilled the crowds with their skills. Professional drivers performed stunts along a specially designed 1.7 km track.

This effort, a first for the Kashmir Valley, was organised by the Federation of Motorsports Clubs of India (FMSCI), affiliated with the FIA. It featured professional Formula 4 drivers performing stunts in a controlled setting.

Organisers implemented safety measures like drone monitoring, emergency medical services, fire extinguishers, and secure barriers. However, two Formula 4 cars made contact with the barriers, but fortunately, there were no major injuries or damage.

The demonstration wasn't limited to Formula 4 cars. Sports cars, motorcycles, and even Go-Karts displayed their capabilities with impressive stunts. The event included drift performances by Indian champions Sanam Sekhon and Pratik Dalal in their respective Lexus and BMW cars. Additionally, superbike riders from Coimbatore and Bengaluru showcased their skill, while rally veteran Hari Singh led a four-wheeled exhibition. However, the highlight was undoubtedly the performance of 10-year-old karting prodigies from various Indian cities.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi even took to social media to praise the event, highlighting its potential to showcase the beauty of Jammu and Kashmir and position India as a major player in the world of motorsports.
This is very heartening to see. It will help further showcase the beauty of Jammu and Kashmir. India offers great opportunities for motorsports to thrive and Srinagar is right on top of the places where it can happen! https://t.co/RNSRy4NnZ3

Divisional Commissioner Vijay Kumar Bidhuri emphasised the event's significance, stating it will be a major draw for the youth and a stepping stone for future motorsport careers.

This inaugural event in Srinagar signifies a noteworthy step forward for motorsports in India, particularly in the Kashmir Valley. The demonstration has the potential to spark interest in the sport within the region.
