The price hike has been attributed to increasing commodity prices and supply chain-related inputs.
Kia India has announced that it will hike prices by up to three per cent for its mass-market models – the Sonet, Seltos and Carens. Kia India says the prices have been hiked due to increasing commodity prices and supply chain-related inputs. The new prices will come into effect from April 1, 2024.
This is the first time Kia India has hiked the prices of its models this year. Furthermore, it is the first manufacturer to announce ahead of the upcoming Financial Year (FY) 2025.
The South Korean brand also mentioned that it has sold 1.16 million units in India since it began its operations in 2019. To date, it has sold 613,000 units of the Seltos, followed by Sonet and Carens which sold 395,000 and 159,000 units, respectively. Along with these three models, Kia also sells the EV6 electric SUV in India.
Hardeep Singh Brar, National Head - Sales and Marketing, Kia India, “At Kia, we consistently strive to deliver premium and technologically advanced products to our esteemed customers. However, due to the continuous increase in commodity prices, adverse exchange rate and rising input cost, we are compelled to implement a partial price hike. The company is absorbing a significant portion of the increase, allowing customers to continue driving their favourite Kia cars without a major dent in their pockets.”
Kia is also working on launching a new model in the Indian market. The upcoming Kia Clavis was also recently spotted testing on Indian shores for the first time. The boxy SUV will likely slot between the Sonet and Seltos in Kia’s portfolio. Read more about it here.
